Our objective is to be electrically off-grid because we want an indoor farm that will cut continuous electricity costs and use a form of clean, green energy. By using the sun to derive our energy, we will be using the natural process of photovoltaics to produce energy with zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and zero environmental impact. Our system's ability to harness power from the sun also allows this project to be economically feasible and desirable in the long run. Unlike fossil fuels, solar energy is infinite and free, and available essentially everywhere. This will save a system more money each year as utility rates climb (Naus 2018; RGS). The major economic challenge will be the initial investment of the photovoltaic system.
