For the past 10 years, researchers have been promoting the benefits and advantages of indoor farming. Despommier (2013) states that “indoor farming offers many advantages over traditional soil-based agriculture; the most important one being total control of conditions necessary to achieve optimal survival, growth, and maturation of any given crop, thereby ensuring maximum yield per square foot of growing space.” Indoor farming is an excellent way to use water efficiently. Water waste is eliminated by recycling the same water throughout the operation. In our greenhouse we plan on using a aeroponic system, which utilizes 90% less water than conventional agriculture, which is both environmentally and economically favorable (Barbosa 2015).
